Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
